The University of Arkansas Howard County Extension and Master Gardeners living in the area have recently organized a Howard County Master Gardener program. The new Master Gardener group has set plans for a number of horticultural workshops and activities. The first activity planned for the general public will be a FREE workshop on saving seeds to be held Monday August 16, from 5 pm until 7 pm. “Seed Saving for Beginners” will include a presentation on general seed-saving and live demonstrations on specific techniques for saving seeds from the most common garden produce including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and beans as well as some popular garden flowers. Participants will receive some fun seeds to grow in their own gardens and supplies to help establish a local seed bank. A “follow-up” seed swap in the spring is planned.

Anyone interested in finding out more about Howard County’s new Master Gardener Program, learning how to save seeds or helping to establish a local seed bank is encouraged to attend this workshop! Although the workshop is free the number of participants is limited and preregistration is required. Please note that due to current covid concerns plans for this workshop are subject to change.
