Since 1969, thousands have descended on Washington, Arkansas, to celebrate the Jonquil Festival. The festival began because settlers planted these flowers in the area for over 100 years. So, the idea developed to start a festival celebrating that fact. The park, named Old Washington at the time, called the first festival the Jonquil and Daffodil Festival, which lasted eight days. That is until the 1970s when the park changed the festival to three days and the name was shortened to the Jonquil Festival. However, the length of the festival or the name change does not alter the fact that it is still a premier festival in southwest Arkansas. So, join us in March for another great festival in this historic town. Also, check out all the other great events that are happening throughout our park in the coming weeks and months.
