Zekelman Industries to invest $120 million in its NEA Atlas Tube operations

Zekelman Industries will invest up to $120 million to expand the manufacturing capabilities and product offerings of its subsidiary, Atlas Tube, in Mississippi County. The project will bring Zekelman’s total number of employees in the area to more than 300. It will also partner with Arkansas Northeastern College on a new workforce training initiative.

“Education and skills training are crucial to developing the next generation of workers. Our goal at Zekelman is to prepare, nurture and inspire students entering the thriving and well-paying steel industry,” said Tom Muth, chief operating officer. “Our commitment is representative of our partnership with the Blytheville community and ongoing dedication to domestic-only manufacturing. We are particularly grateful to Mayor Logan and Mississippi County for their continued support.”

A manufacturer of hollow structural sections and steel pipe, Zekelman currently operates two Atlas Tube facilities in Blytheville. Its new project will allow it to manufacture inline steel tube galvanizing products in size ranges not currently available in North America.

National Cold War Center to host ‘Cold War Party’

The National Cold War Center (NCWC) will host its first annual Cold War Party on November 4.

Previously called The National Cold War Center Gala, the Cold War Party is NCWC’s largest fundraising event of the year. As in previous years, the event will take place at Hangar 207 at the Arkansas Aeroplex in Blytheville.

“The Cold War Party will be a ‘can’t miss’ annual event for anyone who is passionate about The National Cold War Center and the development of Northeast Arkansas into a worldwide destination,” said Katie Thomason, Event Chair of the Cold War Party. “As we evolve the tradition that we have started with the gala in recent years, we look forward to coming together with our many generous patrons once again to celebrate The National Cold War Center and promote its future.”

The dress code for the event is cocktail attire.

Nucor, Nucor-Yamato Steel donate $1 million to Cold War Museum project

Nucor Steel Arkansas and Nucor-Yamato Steel Co. have each donated $500,000 to the Cold War Museum project in Blytheville. The $1 million donation will aid ongoing efforts to make the center a major Delta tourism destination by sharing the unique history of one of the most pivotal conflicts in history.

Nucor Steel Arkansas and Nucor-Yamato Steel each operate steel mills in Blytheville. A timetable for completing the project has not been set.

“Nucor is proud to support The National Cold War Center. Once complete, the center will be a treasure for residents and an attraction for people from all over the world,” said Jon Witherow, Vice President and General Manager of Nucor-Yamato Steel Company. “We succeed when Mississippi County succeeds, and we couldn’t be more excited to give back to our community by supporting the continued development of The National Cold War Center.”
