UA Cossatot Welcomes Ellen Moreland to the Board of Visitors
Ellen Moreland of Glenwood, Arkansas, recently joined UA Cossatot’s Board of Visitors.
Chancellor Dr. Steve Cole said, “We have an extremely active and energetic board that provides our college with locally-focused leadership, and Ellen fits perfectly with this group. She brings a lot of educational and medical industry knowledge to the board and will be a great presence, especially for our communities in Pike County."
Ellen graduated from Glenwood High School in 1984 then pursued her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Henderson State University, graduating in 1989. She continued her education, obtaining a Master of Nursing Science in 1995 from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Ellen has worked as a Nurse Practitioner for 26 years, first in Neurosurgery and currently in Family Practice. She is presently employed by HealthStar Physicians of Hot Springs and cares for patients in her community at Glenwood Family Medicine.
Ellen resides in Glenwood with her husband, Joe. She has two sons, one granddaughter and one grandson, all of whom she adores. Ellen is actively involved in her community and her church activities while
continuing to serve on other boards. Ellen enjoys time with family and friends, cooking, and watching all Razorback sports.
Kathy Beavert Honored at UA Cossatot Board of Visitors Meeting
The UA Cossatot Board of Visitors said goodbye to outgoing chairperson Kathy Beavert at their July meeting in Lockesburg on Monday. Beavert has served on the board for 21 years and was presented an award from UAC Chancellor Dr. Steve Cole. New officers for the coming year are:

UA Cossatot Appoints Two New Board Members
The University of Arkansas Cossatot is excited to announce that two new board members have been selected to serve on the college’s Board of Visitors. The two new members include Barbara Dixon of Lockesburg and Brenda Tate of Ashdown. The decision to appoint these new members was finalized in November.
Barbara Dixon was born and raised in Texarkana and graduated from Liberty-Eylau High School in 1979. After high school, she attended Texarkana Community College. She has lived in Lockesburg since 1984 and currently serves as Branch President of Bank of Lockesburg, having worked in the banking field for 35 years. She has also attended a three-year banking school program held at the Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, known as the Paul W. Barret, Jr. Graduate School of Banking, where she graduated cum laude in 2012.
Barbara says that she is proud to be a part of the Lockesburg community and appreciates the value of having the former Lockesburg School Campus again being used for educational purposes. She has also served as Secretary/Treasurer for the Lockesburg Lions Club since 2016. Her hobbies include reading, quilting, being outdoors, and being with family. She is married to Kenny Dixon and has two sons and three granddaughters.
Brenda Tate is from Ashdown and graduated from Ashdown High School in 1975. In 1978, she graduated from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. After teaching for 41 years, Brenda retired on May 21, 2020, from Ashdown Elementary School.
Tate says, “During my 41 years of teaching, I learned to be patient, teach, and love the children!” Brenda enjoys walking, riding her bike, working on word find puzzles, and keeping in touch with family and friends. She has one son and three grandchildren.
UA Cossatot’s Board of Visitors includes Angie Walker, Barbara Horn, Dr. Glen Lance, Jay Dooley, Jimmy Tumey, Kathy Beavert, Robert Martinez, Tim Pinkerton, Tyler Davis, and now Barbara Dixon and Brenda Tate.

UA Cossatot Board of Visitors Elect Officers to Serve at July Meeting
On Monday, July 13, 2020, the UA Cossatot Board of Visitors met for their July summer meeting to discuss the upcoming academic year. The board also elected three members to serve as officers for the next fiscal year.
At the meeting, it was decided that Kathy Beavert would serve as Chair of the Board of Visitors. Robert Martinez was elected to serve as Vice-Chair, and Tim Pinkerton accepted the position of Secretary.
Kathy Beavert is a resident of Murfreesboro, and Robert Martinez lives in De Queen. In 2000, both Beavert and Martinez became members of the college’s Board of Trustees. In 2001, they became members of UA Cossatot’s Board of Visitors. Nashville resident, Tim Pinkerton became an official Board of Visitors member in 2018.
The college’s Board of Visitors consists of nine total members. Other members of UA Cossatot’s Board of Visitors include Tyler Davis of Ashdown, Jay Dooley of De Queen, Jimmy Tumey of Ashdown, Barbara Horn of Foreman, Dr. Glen Lance of Nashville, and Angie Walker of De Queen.
The next Board of Visitors meeting is scheduled to take place in September 2020
