Sevier County Library System’s annual Mister Roger’s Neighborhood Sweater Drive and Food for Fines month begins November 1st and ends November 30th.  

Let’s find some gently used items that someone can use for the winter to help keep them warm. Coats, hats, sweaters, gloves, scarves, etc. also patrons can bring any nonperishable food item to the library for a one-dollar reduction per item in existing overdue fines. Food accepted for fines on returned library materials only, not for replacement fees or lost or damaged items. Each community library will help their community with items taken. Also donations are always welcome for both clothing items and food items

De Queen will host a Thanksgiving Story Time with Turkey Bingo on November 16th at 4 pm. There will be bingo prizes, treats for the kids and lots of fun. Make sure to tell all the kids and come enjoy a fun game of Turkey Bingo.

Catherine at Horatio Library says that Fall is beautiful and the weather is finally cooling off. The library is getting ready for Thanksgiving. We are changing our children’s program time to 4 pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. We will have special guests, treats and activities so make sure to mark your calendar. For adults, we are considering beginning a craft program featuring different craft each Saturday at 10 am beginning the first Saturday of November.

In the meantime, come and take a look at our new books plus check our sale tables. We have something for everyone. For more information, you can call Catherine at 870-832-6882. I’ll be looking for you.

Here at the Lockesburg Library the special activity programs that are planned for children during the month of November will be our homeschool STEM subjects and on Saturday, November 5th from 10-11:00 our new Pokemon Club. According to librarian Wendy Clay, officers have been elected and mission/ goals planned. If you are 12 or under and enjoy all things Pokemon come meet with us. Rhonda at Gillham Library says Gosh this year has gone by really fast. We have Thanksgiving is coming up soon. Come on by and find out How to Catch a Turkey by Adam Wallace! John Sandford and Virgil Flowers are after killers in Righteous Prey, David Baldacci’s Amos Decker is so very smart with a remarkable memory or Danielle Steel’s Iris Cooper is a singing sensation. School starting is just around the corner and we hope that you have had a marvelous summer.

Well, the Summer Reading Program has come and gone but the Contest will be until July 31. So make sure you turn in your reading records in time. Those Children wishing to participate can stop by and pick up a reading record to record the books they have read and whoever reads the most books in their age group will win a backpack with school supplies.

Horatio Library Summer is in full force. It is so hot outside. What better thing to do than to sit at home and read a good book.   We have a lot of good books this month.  We have new books that are for everyone in the family.   Summer is a good time for the kids to do some extra reading.  We will be having our children’s program on July 16th at 10 a.m. Please make plans to come out and join us.   If you haven’t you need to stop by and look at our new interactive sidewalk.   Bring the kids, they will love it, come on in and see what Horatio Library has to offer you.

Kids come to the Lockesburg Library for Shark Week, July 6,7 and 9. It is s part of our summer of learning about the Ocean. The next two weeks we will explore the ocean lives of Whales and then Octopus. There are activities, books, treats and games. We will have our drawing for Summer Reading Program winners to be announced and awarded August 3rd. Also in August Mz. Wendy is continuing to providing Summer Page scheduling. Hello from Gillham Library! The Summer Reading Program has been a success this year! We are so glad the kids enjoyed the programs and we plan to have some more things for them so watch our Facebook page. Wow what an eventful month January was. Let’s hope February will be a lot better!

We have added new books and DVD’s to the circulation system. You can access our card catalog at www.seviercountylibrary.com/county-card-catalog.Kelsie will be having two story times on February 9th will be make Valentine’s for our Seniors at Bear Creek at 4 pm, and February 23rd at 4 pm will be “Wintertime Fun”. Amy at Horatio Library says, Boy how time flies. It’s hard to believe it’s 2022. I have some good news for you A.J. Rivers fans. We have a new series, “Ava James Mystery” series. The first book is “Ava James and the Ivy Grove.” It is about a detective named Ava James she shadowed Emma Griffin during the Windsor Island investigation. Jayne Ann Krentz has written a third Foggy Lake novel called “Lightening in a Mirror”. We also have new books by Danielle Steel, Diane Chamberlain, Jodi Thomas, Lisa Regan and James Patterson's “The Horsewoman.” We have several new DVD this month.   We have Season 1 and 2 of Wanted Dead or Alive, Season 1 of Gunsmoke, new seasons of The Walking Dead, we have ordered the entire season of Hee Haw. Call Amy at 832-6882 for more information. Remember you can always go on Libby and check out books. Stay safe and Healthy.

Hello from Gillham Library. We have been busy getting things done for our move into our new place. We will be moving across the street from our present location soon and hope to have a few surprises for our patrons. A huge shout-out and thank you to the Gillham Alumni and DMESC for helping us out with the new space. We are at curbside at the present time but just call or come knock on our door and we will get you books or DVD’s. We have some great new reads: James Patterson’s “The Horsewoman”, P.J Tracy’s “Desolation Canyon” Danielle Steel’s “Invisible” and RBP’s “Bye Bye Baby” to name a few. Since the cases of Covid -19 has tripled in the last week The Sevier County Library board has decided to go back to curbside service for ALL Sevier County Libraries beginning February 11. Sevier County December Library Snippets

Merry Christmas Y’all! We hope you all have safe travels and enjoy this Christmas season.

Our Annual Sweater Drive and Food for Fines in November was a success as always. Thank you to all who donated to help your community members. There will be lots of warm folks and full bellies for the holidays we hope.

Beginning December 1st your children will be able to write letters to Santa at the De Queen Library. Since we are not able to hold our 10th Annual Christmas Program due to COVID, we became creative. Area children can come in, receive a paper and envelope, write their letter to Santa, drop in our special mailbox and raise the flag. There is a trick to this so read carefully, your child’s name and address needs to be on the envelope in order to receive a reply from the north pole(wink).

The first 30 children that come in to fill out and mail their letter to Santa, will receive a craft to put together with Kelsie on December 16th during our Christmas virtual story time on facebook.com/seviercountylibrary.

Kelsie will have our regular scheduled virtual story time December 2nd she has got something good up her sleeve so you don’t want to miss it.

Ho Ho Ho and a big Merry Christmas from the Horatio Library. This year has been much different than the ones we have seen in the past. Unfortunately, Covid doesn’t care if its Christmas or not. Our priority has to be the safety of our patrons so we will not be having our annual Christmas Party. On December 12th, on our Facebook page, we will have our online Christmas Story and activities for you to do with your kids. Come by the library and check out our Christmas selection. We have DVD’S such as The Polar Express. Children’s books like How to Catch an Elf and The Dog Who Thought He was Santa. We have adult authors suchs as Diana Palmer, Shelly Shepherd Gray and Fern Michaels. We have Jingle all the Way by Debbie Macomber which is currently on the Bestseller List.
