Ashdown Students at Domtar

Students from the Ashdown High School Advisory Class of Ms. Alicia McCormack were invited to Domtar on Tuesday, April 23 as part of Domtar’s Earth Week in order to show Domtar EarthChoice Ambassadors and employees about how they make mats from plastic bags for the homeless. The students demonstrated how they fold the bags, trim and cut them before tying the loops together then crocheting them into a mat. The mats do not mildew and provide a moisture barrier from the ground. It takes approximately 700 bags to complete each mat.

Superintendent Nichols said, “I am so proud of our students and all the time and effort they have spent on making the mats and the presentation they gave today at Domtar. We appreciate Domtar for inviting them today to speak and excited that they now have employees that are interested in making the mats. Mill Manger Allan Bohn and his employees are top notch and so supportive of our staff and students at Ashdown Public Schools!"
