Agriculture is Another of the 2021 Reasons for Attending UA Cossatot Next Spring

Another of the 2021 Reasons to Attend UA Cossatot in the Spring.....Reason #456.... At UAC, We Believe in Agriculture!

Students interested in this field of study can now earn their associate's degree at UA Cossatot and then take their 60 credit hours to Fayetteville, where they can quickly transfer into a related agriculture program to obtain their bachelor's degree.

At UA Cossatot, agriculture students can take required general education courses and classes such as Agriculture Economics, Intro to Animal Science, and Principles of Horticulture to prepare them for their junior and senior-level coursework at University of Arkansas Fayetteville.

Students can take advantage of UA Cossatot's low tuition rate, which is $74 per credit hour, and then receive that same tuition rate after transferring. The exact tuition rate will be granted to students who live on campus at Fayetteville and those who obtain their Associate of Science degree in Agriculture Education from UA Cossatot. This opportunity is possible, due to the collaboration of universities and community colleges in Arkansas.

Tuesday's COVID-19 Updates

LITTLE ROCK – Governor Asa Hutchinson provided today's update on Arkansas's COVID-19 response.

In its Monday update, the Arkansas Department of Health reported 1,457 new cases; 22,158 active cases; 1,078 hospitalized, which is up 21 from Sunday; 174 on ventilators, which is up 4 from Sunday; deaths added today, 58, for a total of 3,295; a total of 203,107 cases; 152,176 recoveries; PCR tests, 9,178; antigen tests, 1,013.

The Health Department reported that the top counties for new cases are Pulaski, 200; Benton, 138; Washington, 101; Craighead, 93; and Faulkner, 69.

Governor Hutchinson released the following statement on today’s COVID-19 numbers:

"Today we began receiving shipments of the Moderna vaccine (5,900 doses), with additional shipments expected tomorrow and Wednesday. We also received a second shipment of the Pfizer vaccine (18,575 doses). While this news provides hope for many, it is a continued concern to see the loss of 58 additional Arkansans (20 are delayed reports). We must still resolve to take every precaution to keep everyone safe."

Annual Sevier County Banquet and Awards Ceremony to be Rescheduled Amid COVID-19

DE QUEEN, AR- Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, The De Queen/Sevier County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has announced that the annual awards banquet slated for Spring 2021 is being postponed with a new date to be announced at a later time.

Held in February each year, the chamber banquet typically takes place at De Queen High School with tables reserved for members and guests, a meal served, a silent auction, and an awards presentation for recognized organizations, volunteers and businesses. In years past the ceremony has also included performances by The De Queen High School Jazz Band, a live emcee and serving provided by The De Queen High School cross country team. 

The decision to postpone the banquet came during a specially called Board of Directors meeting held this week on Tuesday, December 15th. With COVID case reports continuing to rise in Sevier County and the surrounding areas, the Chamber Board has agreed to prioritize the safety of the community by postponing the event until large gatherings can be held without concerns of COVID-19 exposure. 

Though the event will be pushed back on the calendar, banquet attendees can still expect a fun theme, table decorating contest, silent auction, meal and awards to be distributed as usual. The 2021 Banquet theme will also be announced as the rescheduled date draws closer.

In its Thursday update, the Arkansas Department of Health reported 3,039 new cases; 21,659 active cases; 1,084 hospitalized, which is up 5 from Wednesday; 188 on ventilators, which is up 4 from Wednesday; deaths added today, 38, for a total of 3,112; a total of 194,543 cases; 146,287 recoveries; PCR tests, 14,056; antigen tests, 3,275.

The Health Department reported that the top counties for new cases are Washington, 326; Pulaski, 288; Benton, 226; Craighead, 153; and Saline, 113.

Governor Hutchinson released the following statement on today’s COVID-19 numbers:

“The 3,039 new cases today is a milestone we did not want to reach. With over 17,000 COVID-19 test results over the past 24 hours, we see our testing continues to increase and identify cases. If we isolate and quarantine as needed, then the identifying of cases will help control the spread. We continue to work on vaccine distribution, but we have to focus on distancing and wearing our mask to slow this virus down."

In its Wednesday update, the Arkansas Department of Health reported 2,306 new cases; 20,774 active cases; 1,079 hospitalized, which is up 9 from Tuesday; 184 on ventilators, which is down 6 from Tuesday; deaths added today, 58, for a total of 3,074; a total of 191,504 cases; 144,621 recoveries; PCR tests, 8,885; antigen tests, 4,696.

The Health Department reported that the top counties for new cases are Pulaski, 242; Washington, 159; Benton, 153; Craighead, 110; and Faulkner, 103.

Governor Hutchinson released the following statement on today’s COVID-19 numbers:

“Yesterday was a new record in antigen testing in Arkansas, and new cases are running flat week over week. Regretfully, we also saw another record in new deaths, with 58 deaths reported yesterday. We are distributing the vaccine across the state for our health care workers, and we continue to see high levels of community spread."

Secondary Career Center: This is a skill driven program for students to be bused from their high school to a UAC campus for training in Automotive Service Technology, Collision Repair, Medical Professions, Education, and Welding. these classes are offered at no cost to the students!

Dual Credit Courses: These courses are traditionally taken on your high school campus and count for both high school and college credit

“Today is a hopeful day. After months of work, a COVID-19 vaccine is in Arkansas, and the first vaccine was given to Sherian Kwanisai today. The FDA should approve additional vaccines soon, and we will be set to cover our long-term care facilities. Brighter days are ahead, but we must continue to follow public health guidelines. This virus continues to rapidly spread, and it's up to each of us to do our part to slow the spread."

Nashville Chamber Christmas Parade

The Nashville Christmas parade in the City park was a great success.

We know that we had over 500 come through the park because

Kids Dental Center said that they gave out all of the 500 toothbrushes

that they had on hand. We know that there was a good number

that continued to flow through the city park.

The Nashville Chamber of Commerce wants to thank the UA Cossatot

student ambassadors, Diana Ramirez of DeQueen, and MacKynze

Dollarhide of Ashdown for tabulating the winners of the parade.

The winners were: 1st place Poblanos of Nashville, 2nd place Kids

Dental Center of Nashville, and 3rd place was Special Moments also

of Nashville. The best decorated vehicle was Mark McCammack

A great thank you to the Nashville and Dierks fire departments for

bringing their equipment to make the parade more festive. And of

course Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule to greet the kids.

Also, the Christmas Bucks winner last week was Sheila Toliver of

Nashville for $100. Congratulations from the Nashville Chamber!
