UA Cossatot honors two local WWII veterans during basketball games in Lockesburg

Sterling Daniel and Sam Phillips were honored recently by UA Cossatot at Veteran’s Night basketball games. State Representative DeAnn Vaught and UA Cossatot Chancellor Steve Cole are pictured with Daniel and Phillips at midcourt between games and presented special proclamations from the Arkansas Legislature, thanking them for their service to America.

Earth Day is Clean-Up Day!

UA Cossatot Center for Student Success, JAG and Student Ambassadors have helped coordinate clean-up days for the city of De Queen, Ashdown, and Nashville to help make a BIG and visible difference in our communities. Volunteer student groups include Student Ambassadors, Rotaract, JAG, Youth Build, and the UA Cossatot Basketball team.

Day 1- April 21 included basketball students picking up trash along one of the busiest highways in De Queen, Arkansas, while

Day 2- April 22 will include Ashdown, AR, and Nashville, AR. 

 

We want to thank all the kind people and businesses that showed their support by coming out to let us know how appreciative they were of our service, and we especially would like to thank Leopard Nutrition for sponsoring our drinks for the day. 

We would also like to express our gratitude to Mayor Jeff Brown for supplying our vests, trash bags, gloves and also to the De Queen Chamber for providing our De Queen students with t-shirts. 

Colts and Lady Colts Read "Salt in His Shoes" to De Queen Elementary Students Wednesday

“The students and staff at De Queen Elementary had an exciting day interacting with the Lady Colts and Colts of UA Cossatot yesterday. They learned about perseverance and acceptance through the reading of Salt in His Shoes and enjoyed conversations with the team members. Receiving a Colts tee shirt from UA Cossatot served as the icing on the cake for DES students. Thank you UA Cossatot for the experience!”

Robert Byrd, Athletic Director and head coach of UA Cossatot Colts and Lady Colts, recently spoke at De Queen Lions Club about the success of the basketball teams’ previous season, the upcoming benefit golf tournament at De Queen County Club, and the upcoming season.

UA Cossatot Drawdown Set for April 2nd

UA Cossatot will host TWO drawdowns for UA Cossatot’s Colts and Lady Colts! The drawdowns will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021. The first drawdown starts at 5:30 PM and the second drawdown at 7:30 PM at the UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Gymnasium. Loren Hinton and Jon Bunyard will emcee the event. Head Coach and Athletic Director, Robert Byrd and the entire Colts and Lady Colts teams will be in attendance to root on each ticket holder!

 

How does a Drawdown work?

Tickets are eliminated until only one is left. The last ticket on the board is the winner of the Drawdown prize. The last ten (10) people holding tickets are given the option to keep drawing and eliminating tickets or to split the money among themselves. All must agree to split or keep drawing until they all agree or only one is left as the winner. Winner does not have to be present to win.

Colts Basketball Games Postponed in Little Rock Today

UA Cossatot Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director, Robert Byrd, tells Ed 88 that today's scheduled games in Little Rock at Arkansas Baptist have been postponed due to road conditions in central Arkansas.

De Queen Lions Club "Feed the Colts Night" at UA Cossatot

De Queen Lions Club fed the Colts Basketball Team smoked brisket sandwiches Wednesday evening at UA Cossatot. De Queen Lions plan to feed the Lady Colts today at lunch. The Lady Colts were out of town last night at a scrimmage game at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas.


Meet the Colts Event and Fish Fry on Friday at Skilled Trades UA Cossatot De Queen

UA Cossatot will host a Meet the Colts event and fish fry on October 21 through October 24. Festivities will take place in Nashville, Ashdown, De Queen, and Lockesburg. The Southwest Arkansas community and UA Cossatot Colts fans will have the opportunity to meet this year’s Colts and Lady Colts as well as purchase a fish meal to support UA Cossatot student-athletes.

The fish meal includes fried catfish, french fries, hushpuppies, and coleslaw for a donation of $10 or more. Colts merchandise will also be available for purchase.

The Nashville event and fish fry will take place at the Howard County Courthouse on Wednesday, October 21. The Ashdown event and fish fry will take place at the Little River County Courthouse on Thursday, October 22. The De Queen event and fish fry will take place at the Skilled Trades Building of UA Cossatot on Friday, October 23. The final event and fish fry will take place in front of UA Cossatot’s Bank of Lockesburg Gymnasium on Saturday, October 24. Each event and fish fry will begin at 11:00 am and end at 1:00 pm.

UA Cossatot Basketball Coach, Robert Byrd said, “We're excited about the upcoming Meet the Colts Week. Our student athletes will have the opportunity to visit the counties we serve. We are looking forward to interacting with members of each community.”
