FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 16, 2023

CONTACT: Loren Hinton, Community Relations Coordinator

Madelyn Jones has been selected to serve as the UA Cossatot Foundation and Advancement Director. Jones will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of UA Cossatot’s Foundation and Advancement programming, including securing, accepting and entering gift transactions, processing them through to the centralized donor database and tracking pledges, pledge payment, and gift fulfillment. She will also create and maintain the alumni/donor database to support all alumni and donor engagement activities, outbound solicitations including annual giving, sponsorship programming and major gift activities. The Foundation and Advancement Director will also assist the Athletic department to develop successful gift campaigns in support of men’s and women’s athletics.

Jones said, “As a Sevier County native, I am thrilled and grateful to be returning to my home community to serve as Director of Foundation and Advancement. I am looking forward to working alongside Chancellor Steve Cole, the College Relations team, and community members to strengthen resources that will serve students and the UA Cossatot campuses.”

Jones joins UA Cossatot after six years working at the University of Arkansas. She was named the first director of employer relations for the College of Education and Health Professions in 2021, serving as the contact for employers, industry, and external partners hoping to recruit and hire U of A students from the college, the university's third-largest, with more than 6,000 students. Jones coordinated employer recruiting on campus and scheduled employer speakers. She also facilitated career events, industry tours, and provided training for employers, faculty, and students to increase awareness of employment opportunities. She also created an employer sponsorship program for the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing to support program ceremonies, operational costs, and student expenses. Jones was previously the college's career counselor, assisting students with career exploration, career development and transition to their professional careers. Jones has also been very active with the Arkansas Association of Colleges and Employers (AACE), serving as secretary and leading the conference committee.

UA Cossatot Chancellor Dr. Steve Cole praised Jones, and is looking forward to adding her to the UAC staff. “To get someone with Madelyn’s pedigree to head up the UA Cossatot Foundation is pure gold. She has all the tools for the job, but more importantly, she is from Southwest Arkansas and is ready to develop an incredible Foundation and Advancement office that will interact every week in Sevier, Howard, Little River, and Pike counties. There is no doubt she will be a friendraiser and fundraiser that will help our students, athletics, and college grow for the future.”

Jones will officially begin her duties at UA Cossatot on April 10

Michael D. Jones and Linda Croy of Bentonville Establish Howard County Scholarship

UA Cossatot Foundation recently received a $5,000 gift from Michael D. Jones and Linda Croy of Bentonville, AR.

The gift will establish the Michael D. Jones Sophomore Scholarship and award five students from Howard County a $1,000 scholarship each. In addition, students must have completed at least 30 credit hours, be in a degree-specific field of study, and have a financial need.

Jones said, “I grew up in Howard County and my parents, Darwin and Effie Jones, were educators in Mineral Springs, Arkansas. I wanted to contribute to the education of students attending the UA Cossatot to give back to that area.”

The UA Cossatot Foundation welcomes gifts of any amount to support scholarships and help UA Cossatot achieve its educational mission.

Dustin Roberts, UA Cossatot’s Director of Development, said, “We greatly appreciate Michael and Linda’s generous donation to support our Howard County Students. This gift will truly make a difference and help local college students achieve their educational goals.”

UA Cossatot Receives Harvest Regional Bank’s 2022 Outstanding Partner in Education Award

UA Cossatot was selected as Harvest Regional Food Bank’s 2022 Outstanding Partner in Education at this year’s Hunger Action Luncheon held on September 27, 2022, in Texarkana, TX. Erika Buenrrostro and Alisa Cooke with UA Cossatot attended the luncheon and accepted the award.

Harvest Regional Food Bank recognized UA Cossatot and the work the college’s Center for Student Success’s food pantry has done to help combat hunger on all four campuses.

“Joining during an unprecedented global pandemic and jumping right in to provide food assistance to students in not one but four of our counties is no small task! This is why we will be honoring our partnership with UA Cossatot and our other award recipients,” said Callie Buckley, Harvest Regional Food Bank Impact Coordinator.

“We are super excited to receive the “Harvest Regional Bank’s 2022 Outstanding Partner in Education Award” recognition presented by Harvest Foods. Food insecurity is an issue in every community but also impacts college campuses nationwide. While food and housing costs continue to increase, we wanted to create a safe place on campus where students could receive weekly food voucher cards and bags, allowing them to focus more on academics. The Center for Student Success takes pride in its services and feels honored to be

chosen as the recipient of this award. Opening the Center in 2017 has been one of our most significant accomplishments on campus,” said Erika Buenrrostro, Director of Student Success and Enrichment.

Bradford Donates to UA Cossatot Foundation’s 50 & Forward Campaign

The UA Cossatot Foundation recently received a $500 gift from Mrs. Jana Bradford of Glenwood, Arkansas, to the Foundation’s 50 & Forward Campaign.

Bradford was recently a guest speaker to juniors and seniors attending UA Cossatot’s Medical Professions class, part of the college’s High School Programs. Bradford spoke on medical-legal ethics and her role as a prosecuting attorney.

“It was an honor speaking to high school students and learning more about them and their aspirations, especially pertaining to higher education. I wanted to give to the Foundation’s 50 & Forward Campaign to help future generations and provide much-needed scholarship funds.”

The UA Cossatot Foundation’s 50 & Forward Campaign is created to offer scholarship funds for UA Cossatot students through a matching grant awarded to UA Cossatot. All donations raised through this Campaign are matched 100 percent up to $150,000. The goal is to raise $150,000 by 2025 to launch a new scholarship endowment of $300,000 in honor of the UA Cossatot’s upcoming 50th anniversary.

UA Cossatot’s Director of Development Dustin Roberts said, “We are so grateful for the generous donation received by Mrs. Bradford. The 50 & Forward Campaign is an excellent opportunity for donors, alumni, and friends of the college to make a gift of any amount, especially since your gift will be matched!”

Dewayne & Janice Mack Donate to UAC Foundation’s 50 & Forward Campaign

The UA Cossatot Foundation received a gift from Foundation Board Member Dewayne Mack and his wife, Janice, the week of Giving Tuesday. The $5,000 donation will go toward the Foundation’s 50 & Forward Campaign.“We just want to help in a little way for students less fortunate than others,” said Mack.

The UA Cossatot Foundation’s 50 & Forward Campaign is designed to provide more scholarship funds for UA Cossatot students through a matching grant UA Cossatot recently received. All donations raised through this campaign are matched 100 percent up to $150,000. The goal is to raise $150,000 or more by 2025 to establish a new scholarship endowment of $300,000 in honor of the college’s upcoming 50th anniversary.

Chancellor Dr. Steve Cole said, “We have worked so hard to get where we are over the past 46 years and we will keep doing all that we can for our students. When we have supporters like Dwayne and Janice, it helps eliminate the greatest hurdle our students face, and that is being able to afford college. It makes it even better to know that their $5,000 donation has immediately turned into $10,000 with the unique grant we received last year!”

The UA Cossatot Foundation would like to invite all donors, alumni, and friends of the college to make a gift of any amount to the 50 & Forward Campaign to establish scholarship funds for generations to come.

Remember, if you donate $100, it immediately turns into $200. If you donate $10,000, it immediately turns into $20,000.
